Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm from Yuma, Arizona. I chose this major because I am passionate about sustainability and I love plants. I know that agriculture contributes the most to climate change, so learning about sustainable agriculture will give me the tools I needed to create the most impact in my career.

What have you enjoyed most about your major?

My favorite class were plant physiology classes and I also really enjoyed Environmental Physics, taught by Dr. Marcel Schaap, that broke down climate change from the macroscopic level to the microscopic level.

Any clubs or leadership positions you enjoyed?

I was the President of the Plant Science Club with a mission to teach people about plants. We had meetings, worked on the greenhouse space on the 6th street garage her eon the University of Arizona campus and in a community garden.

I was also the co-chair for the ASUA Students for Sustainability, where I worked on advocating for healthier food and helped with Yoga in the Garden, which is free yoga in the community garden!

Any scientific research you did?

I was a Biological Research Aide Assistant in the Tuscon Aspergillis Lab, where I helped with a graduate student’s research and used a variety of microbiological research techniques to gather data on Aspergillus fungus.

Any study abroad?

I spent a semester in Vienna, Austria at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) studying sustainability and sustainable agriculture.

Next steps?

I'm going to graduate school in Landscape Architecture at UA College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture.

Words of advice?

Trust the process. Don't get hung up on the title of your major. You'll get where you need to go.
