Dr. Ian Pepper is a professor in the Department of Environmental Science and co-director of the Water, Energy and Sustainable Technology (WEST) Center. He is highly respected environmental microbiologist working at the interface of human health, soils, potable water, and municipal waste. In 2020, he was charged with leading a Wastewater-Based Epidemiology team to monitor University of Arizona student dorms for SARS-Cov-2. Due to the success of this program, it  has subsequently been identified as the leading UA accomplishment of 2020.

Dr. Charles (Chuck) Gerba is a professor in the Department of Environmental Science. He is a environmental virologist studying the environmental control and spread of viruses through the environment. Last year he received the “Water Heroes” Award from the Water Environment Federation for his contributions on SARS-CoVid-2. He has authored more than 700 articles and several books on environmental microbiology.
